The numbers from IAB have been released for the third quarter, and they are looking good in terms of US ad spend on digital ads. Advertisers in the United States spent $17.6 billion on digital ads in the third quarter alone. This is quite a remarkable number, and it marks the highest third quarter we have ever seen in this segment. In addition, year over year, it is a 20% growth, which is huge.
The report also gave a breakdown on where advertisers are spending their digital ad money for the first half of the year. It found that 50% was spent on search ads, 31% on display, 12% on video, and 8% on other. They also reported that 47% of all the internet ad revenue was coming from mobile
This has clearly been an impressive year for digital ad growth in the United States, and the rest of the world has done well too.
The report did have some concerns regarding things like ad blocking, and the continuing growth of digital ad fraud. These, however, are certainly not new concerns for anyone in the industry. They need to be addressed, but they aren’t big enough issues to cause advertisers to avoid the digital ad space at all.
